A tourist park in the northern Thai province of Chiang Rai launched its annual balloon festival earlier today. The event is being held at the Singha Park and is a celebration of the heritage of wind-borne air travel and a varied collection of balloons presents a surreal spectacle.
Visitors are not restricting to viewing only as they have the opportunity of taking a hot-air balloon ride. Today is the 14 February and Valentine’s Day. Couples wishing to mark the day of love with a unique experience will find a balloon ride with the verdant hills of Chiang Rai as a backdrop is heavenly.
The Singha Park International Balloon Fiesta is a five-day event which culminates on Saturday 18 February with live performances by the popular Thai bands Silly Fools and Jetset’er. There are live music and light shows scheduled throughout the five days of the balloon festival.
When travelling from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai, Singha Park is on a side road leading off of the main highway, Phaholyothin Road. The turning is about 10kms before the town of Chiang Rai. Singha Park occupies a 3,000 acre tract of pristine land and is famed for seasonal flowers and as a leading events venue for the far north of Thailand.
