On the 20 January, the Promenada Mall is the venue for the 2018 edition of the Chiang Mai Jazz Festival. The seventh annual jazz music fest has a mixed line-up of six Thai and international acts. Scandinavia’s Jazz Kamikaze will be joined by Funktion, Violette Wautier, Swing King, the Isra Liberal Orchestra and Alissa Wollmann.
The event is being promoted with the slogan Lets’s Dance the Night Away. It is scheduled to start at 18:00 and will run through until midnight. Sponsors include Bangkok Airways, Singha Beer and record promoters Hitman Jazz. Tickets for the jazz fest cost THB750 and are available from Rimping Supermarkets. Entry is free for children under 12.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of its founding, Bangkok Airways is offering travellers who have bought tickets since 1 November 2016 a discount of 20 per cent. Vendors will be serving meals, snacks and drinks at the jazz fest. The organisers, Event Pop, say attendees cannot bring their own supplies in. The Promenada is east of central Chiang Mai, but easily reached in a taxi, tuk-tuk or songthaew.
