The organisers of Chiang Mai’s Unseen Lanna trade and retail expo are busy putting the final touches to preparations for the launch tomorrow. At a press conference announcing the third edition of Unseen Lanna at the weekend, reporters were told the expo would feature stalls selling One Tambon One Product (OTOP) items and stands dedicated to villages with self-sustaining policies in place.
For tourists, the highlight of the fair is likely to be OTOP articles produced by area collectives. These include handicrafts ornaments and tools, pha muang fabric sarongs and other clothing items, and toiletries created from natural products. The fair is themed on the community self-sufficiency philosophy initiated by Thailand’s late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
The venue for the Unseen Lanna Expo 2017 is the Chiang Mai International Convention and Exhibition Centre (CMECC). The centre is in the northwest Chang Phuak area of the city and just to the rear of Lanna Golf Course. The expo begins tomorrow, the 15 September, and runs through until Sunday the 24 September.
