Thai brewer Singha is sponsoring a half marathon scheduled to take place during the Songkran Festival celebrations in Chiang Mai later this week. Due to the high temperatures common at this time of year, the Singha Run is a night one with a start time of 20:00 on the 13 April 2017.
Registration to run closed on the 3 April, but the organisers say they expect large numbers of spectators to attend. Runners had a choice of three distances. These were a 21km half marathon, a 10.5km quarter marathon and a 5.25km fun run. The total number of runners across all three classes was 800.
The categories were also broken down into age groups and genders. The winners in each group will get cash prizes as well as race certificates. Runners had to pay for a Tikkina head-torch along with entry fees to compete. Registration for the marathon on race day is between 14:00 and 19:30 at the start point near Chiang Mai Zoo on Suthep Road.
Jog and Joy is organising the Singha Run. The organisers have a similar run scheduled for 16 April at Royal Park Rajapruek. This also features a half marathon, a quarter marathon and a fun run. Visit Jog and Joy website for more information.
